CSA Spring Update for 2024

Hello CSA Supporters,

First off, thank you so much for the support over the years (and especially last year). Without your income we would be out of business after the loss of most of our crop we suffered last year. I wanted to give you an update on the farm. We have had some more weather related issues this winter and spring, but the good news is that we will have fruit for a CSA again this year. It’s going to be a later ripening cycle like last year was, so we will not be starting your box deliveries until mid-June most likely. We should be ready to start taking sign-ups on our website around 4/15/24. I’m hopeful that we will have more spaces this year than last, and will also return to offering drop-off in Napa and Winters. We mostly depend on word-of-mouth to get the word out about the CSA, so if you have friends, co-workers, family and any other fruit lovers you think may be interested please pass the word. And finally we are also seeking farm crew for the coming season. If anybody comes to mind for the job, please tell them to send in a cover letter and resume. Thanks.

Update on the orchard June 2023

Hello folks. I wanted to give an update and post some photos here of the sad, suffering orchard at The Cloverleaf in 2023. We are experiencing a very heavy amount of leaf curl in most of our peaches and nectarines. In addition, the rains hurt pollination and our yields are very low everywhere. We also lost all of our Robada apricots (and some other varieties) due to rain during flowering.

We expect the trees to recover and be back producing next year. They drop their infected leaves and push out new growth. But we won’t have much fruit to sell this year. So no Farmers Market, no U-pick and not much on the shelves at our usual Davis Food Co-op and Sacramento Food Co-op outlets. CSA and Ugly Fruit Club are still a go though.

Here’s hoping next year we return to a full harvest. Thanks for your support over the years. In farming you gotta roll with the punches and deal with down years. This is one of those years. 🙏🏻🌳👨🏻‍🌾 Tree.

Farm Update: CSA Opening Soon

This winter has been rainy! We’ve heard from many of you wondering when you can sign up for the CSA, and the answer is: soon! Everything has been delayed by the stormy winter weather.

We were just barely able to get out there and finish pruning our trees during those few weeks in February that we had some dry(er) weather. Unfortunately, the rains came again while the orchard was blooming and we lost most of the apricots. Both of our earlier varieties (Robada and Blenheim) have little to no fruit (maybe just enough for the orchard team to have snacks). Our later varieties of apricots have very minimal fruit compared to other years. The peaches and nectarines are just starting to set fruit and although it’s still early, it looks like they hung in there better than the apricots.

Because the apricots are a bulk of our early season fruit we have decided to shorten the CSA from 11 weeks to 8 weeks this year – starting two weeks later than usual. We’ll have the same CSA pick-up locations available as last year, and will be getting sign-ups open on the website by next week.

If you’re an Ugly Fruit fan, U-Pick enthusiast, or Farmers’ Market regular, have no fear! We plan to run all those programs as well. We’ll send out announcements about those as the time gets nearer.

Thanks for your support, and here’s looking forward to some sunnier days ahead!

We’re on TV!

What should have been a slow rainy farmers market got a lot more exciting when Michael Marks of Good Day Sacramento took a taste of our fruit leather. He snagged the very last pack of apricot, but we’ve got lots of peach in stock, now including the cute lil’ 2-packs we’ve been featuring at our market stall. They’re perfect for stocking stuffers, coworker Secret Santa, or (honestly) just to tuck into your pocket for on-the-go snacking. Check out the tv clip below, and snag a pack or two from our online shop.

Sending gifts to far-flung loved ones? Make sure to get your order in by Thursday, Dec. 15 for your package to arrive by Christmas. Deadline for pick-up orders is Thursday, Dec. 22. Organic Jams Back in Stock!

Are you missing those tart-and-plummy Robada apricots from back in June, or the juice of a Red Haven peach dripping down your chin? We’re here to help–our small-batch organic jams are back in stock in our online shop. We have several single-varietal flavors available, so take a look for your summer faves, or just go for our peach and apricot blends. All our jams are hand made in small batches, using tree-ripened organic fruit from our orchard. Perk up your PB&J, add a dollop on top of cheese and crackers, or even whip up a quick batch of ice cream (a jar of jam + a pint of half-n-half in your ice cream maker, it doesn’t get easier than that!).

Fruit Leather Back in Stock!

We know you’re in withdrawal from the end of stone fruit season (we are too), so we’ve been hard at work packaging up our fruit leather. It’s now available in our online shop! This year we have both apricot and peach flavors available. You can order for local pickup or to have it shipped anywhere in the contiguous US–it’s a great way to share your love of northern CA’s amazing stone fruit with distant friends and family.
